Eye Hospitals in Uttar Pradesh
Uttar Pradesh (UP) is the most populous state of India, located in its northern part. It is the fourth largest Indian state with an area of 243,290 square km which is equal to 7.33 percent of the total area of India. It is the second-largest Indian state by economy with agriculture and service industries like tourism, hotels, real estate, insurance and financial consultancies contributing majorly to its economy. The official language of UP is Hindi and it is blessed with two beautiful rivers namely the Ganga and Yamuna.
The healthcare sector in Uttar Pradesh needs greater attention from the authorities and the Government of India. According to recent reports, there is a shortage of thirty five percent Public Health Centres (PHC) and thirty three percent sub centres (SC) in the state. Surprisingly, these reports suggest that there is a surplus of one hundred and ninety percent Community Health Centres (CHC) in UP. However, there is a major shortage of human resources and basic infrastructure in these CHCs. For example, more than half of the X-ray machines here are not functional. All these factors hint at a poor allocation of resources. Hence, the government is aiming to improve the healthcare sector in UP in various aspects.
The eye care sector in Uttar Pradesh includes some well-developed eye care hospitals like the Sitapur Eye Hospital. The foundation of this hospital was laid back in 1964 by the then President of India, Doctor S. Radhakrishnan. Over all these years, this hospital has continued to provide eye care facilities to numerous patients.
