Chhattisgarh is a central state of India with its capital at Raipur. It is the tenth largest state by area and seventeenth most populated state of India. Earlier Chhattisgarh was a part of Madhya Pradesh. It got statehood in November 2000. There are twenty seven districts in the state. Chhattisgarh has achieved tremendous growth in industrial and agricultural production resulting in 11.49 percent growth rate in GDP for the period 2009-10.

The Chhattisgarh government has launched Mukhya Mantri Swashtya Beema Yojana under the National Health Insurance Scheme for the benefit of its people. The government is also trying to encourage Public Private Partnership to improve the state’s health sector. However, private institutions do not show much interest in setting up their laboratories in under-developed regions like Bastar and Surguja. The state’s Directorate of Health Services is making concrete efforts in this direction however, private institutions do not seem to contribute much in this social cause as they feel that the amount payed under the insurance scheme is not sufficient for the treatment of the insured.
